How I started?
Hello, my name is Elizabeth. I started Barn Swallow Garden as a Market Garden about 12 years ago. I focused on fall crops, mainly ten types of specialty garlic and a huge variety of winter squash. As a lifelong knitter, I knit a few things to brighten up my farmers market stand. I guess the rest is history. My other passion (besides knitting and gardening) is getting into the backcountry. If you buy a hat from me there is a good chance I knit it at a campsite or maybe on a road trip :)
My aesthetic is functional. I strive to make items that are useful, beautiful, and well made. I make everything by hand and it means something to me to put these things in the world hopefully to be enjoyed. I use high quality materials and simple designs, really trying to make a quality useful product that will last a long time. My wool is purchased from a renewable Midwestern company.
